SOPE-OC is a Democratic Club chartered with the Democratic Party of Orange County to support school boards, individual school board members, and school board candidates who prioritize students in their decision-making by following both Federal Law and the laws of the State of California. The group works at the local, county, and state levels to advocate for candidates, policies, and initiatives that support public schools, their staff members, and their students. We welcome all members who share our commitment to public education as necessary to democracy and are proud to work with other groups who share our goals.
SOPE-OC was formed by grassroots volunteers—parents, activists, teachers, school board members, and others—who saw a need to resist the efforts of those seeking to undermine public education by disseminating false information, banning books, omitting curriculum elements mandated by state law, and more. We want to let concerned citizens know that public schools are under attack and endangered, to encourage them to attend meetings and to vote wisely, to be present at meetings where those attacking our schools will see by our presence that they do not speak for everyone, and to share the facts in whatever ways we can.
